Looking for a race that’s a scary good time for the entire family? Look no further – this year’s Monster Run has options for everyone from the Wicked Quarter Marathon to the Goose Bump Filled 5.5K to the Frightfully Fun Kids’ Run.
This is the 2nd year for the race that’s held in Whitnall Park. We recently chatted with Vision Event Management’s Marketing Director, Sandra Chambers, to get the scoop on this year’s event.
For race specifics, view our Featured Races page.
This is Monster Run’s second year in MKE – can you talk a bit about what makes this race special?
This is our most kid friendly, family-fun event. We set the kids race off at 4pm so that the parents can watch them run and receive their medals before they run the quarter marathon or 5.5K at 4:45pm (aka The Witching Hour). In addition to costume contests and games, we also have pumpkin painting for the kids and a cookout with free hotdogs for everybody.
What should participants expect at this year’s event? Is there anything new or different?
The quarter marathon course is different, as runners and walkers who participated last year will essentially be running the course in the opposite direction this year. The 5.5K has changed as well; we added .5K onto the distance!
Can you tell us a bit about the costume contest? Where and how will participants be judged?
Runners should be sure to wear their most creative costume and enter in the Creep Me Out Costume Contest! Of course costumes are not mandatory, but it is so much more fun to dress up! Judging will be done before the race starts.
- Kids Costume Judging (15 & under): 3:15-3:30pm at post-race party stage
- Adult Costume Judging (16 & over): 4:00-4:30pm at post-race party stage
Winners will be announced before the beginning of each race at the start line.
What’s happening at this year’s post-race party?
This year’s post-race party will have lots of games, activities and treats! Each participant will receive a free hotdog and for those 21 & older, a complimentary beer, aka. Witches Brew! Games include pumpkin bowling, pumpkin painting and guessing games, like “What did I just touch in that box?” game. Like last year, there will be bonfires and ghostly decorations.
Can you tell us a bit about this year’s non-profit partner?
The charity partner for Monster Run is Razor Sharp Minds. Razor Sharp Minds Foundation, a non-profit organization, was founded on the belief that a cure can be found for Alzheimer’s Disease. To this end, Razor Sharp Minds supports direct scientific research and promotes healthy habits that lead to healthy minds. Over 90 percent of donations to Razor Sharp Minds support direct scientific research and Foundation programs.
