Exciting Changes in Store for the Heatbreaker + A Race Entry Giveaway!

The Heatbreaker – the sister race to the Icebreaker Indoor Marathon –is undergoing a few significant changes this year.

For starters, organizers are adding a full 26.2-mile marathon to the race card.  The race – now called the Heatbreaker Marathon & Half Marathon – will be held on Saturday, July 26 at the Pettit National Ice Center.

The Heatbreaker was launched in 2012 as a half marathon with four heats. Last year it was reduced to three heats, and this year there will just be one heat (7 a.m.) followed by the marathon at 10 a.m.  The Inferno Challenge will be back again for any runners daring enough to do both the half and the full.  Finishers of the Inferno are promised a unique prize for their efforts.

One of the special features of the Heatbreaker is that it comes at the hottest time of the year – a time when there are very few distance running events.  July is one of the slowest months of the year for marathons.  However, even if it’s sweltering outside, the temperature inside the Pettit Center is always a cool 45-50 degrees so runners are guaranteed perfect race weather conditions.

Registration opens today for the Heatbreaker.  There are just 125 spots for each race.  To find the registration link or for more information, go to www.indoormarathon.com.

  7. Racing indoors is surprisingly not as monotonous as it sounds! The regulated temps, easy stops, being able to check your pace at each lap make it easy to keep consistent pace. Hopefully it will actually be hot out this July (outdoor temps were in the 60s during last year’s Heatbreaker).

  14. I loved that race I ran my best half time there last year and for a runner who has dealt with stomach issues since having my daughter it was awesome having restrooms about every 200 yards! It was a great atmosphere and I loved hearing them announce people as they were coming close to the end and that announcement I got as they told me I had one Leo to go was AMAZING! Looking forward to it again this year! Please pick me!!!
