Calling all witches, ghosts and goblins – the inaugural Monster Run is just one month away! MIlwaukee’s newest race features a Quarter Marathon, 5k, Kids Run and plenty of spooky surprises along a course that runs through Whitnall Park.
Below, Anna Ryan from Vision Event Management, talks about what runners can expect at this year’s inaugural race.
For more details about the Monster Run, visit our Featured Races page.
This is the Monster Run’s inaugural year – what prompted the start of this race?
We wanted to provide a fun Halloween-theme race the whole family can enjoy. We also thought making this an evening run was something unique and very fitting for the Halloween season.
Who wouldn’t want to add this medal to their collection??
How many runners are you expecting this year?
This year, we’re expecting more than 2,500 participants.
Can you share some of the race highlights?
The Monster Run provides an exciting Halloween-theme race with post-race games and activities for the whole family. Three distances fit any runner’s ability: there’s a Quarter Marathon (6.55 Miles), 5K and Kids Run. Post-race activities include bobbing for apples, a potato sack race, digging for worms and a guess the number of candy corn game. Course décor will also certainly add to the Halloween theme. Pumpkins carved ahead of time will also be judged.
Can you tell us more about the Costume Contest?
Participants will be judged ahead of time and announced at the beginning of the race. There are three categories: Best Group Costume, Best Kids Costume and Best Individual Costume. Prizes include gift certificates and commemorative trophies.
What are some of the participant perks?
All finishers will get a medal and Quarter Marathon participants will also receive a long sleeve tech shirt. 5K and Kids Run participants will receive a cotton shirt. All registered participants receive 1 FREE witches brew (aka beer).
What’s the course like?
The course is pretty scenic and runs through the Boerner Botanical Gardens. The course is also relatively flat with a couple of rolling hills after mile four.
