Last year’s inaugural Brewers Mini Marathon sold out well before race day. With a course that runs around and through Miller Park and a post-race tailgate party featuring live music, food and beer, everyone wanted to run this race!
This year’s event will be just as exciting, especially with the addition of a 10k race. Below, Anna Ryan from Vision Event Management, talks about what runners can expect at this year’s race.
For more details about the Brewers Mini Marathon, visit our Featured Races page.
With all the fall half marathons in the area, what makes the Brewers Mini standout?
We believe the course is second to none and brings runners past many Milwaukee landmarks, including the Harley-Davidson Museum, Marquette University, The Mitchell Park Conservatory (The Domes), through the Miller Valley and finally through Miller Park around the warning track on the field. In addition, all participants receive a ticket voucher for a future Brewers game and are invited to a post-race tailgate party.
Is there anything new or different happening at the race this year?
We have moved the start/finish area onto Frederic Miller Way. This year, we also have a seeded start corral. And of course, the new 10K addition to the race.
What prompted the decision to add a 10k race?
This was an opportunity to get more people involved with the shorter distance. It was always our plan to add it after we got the event off the ground.
What’s the course like?
The course is wide and open. It’s fairly flat as well with only a couple of small elevation changes. For Milwaukee, it’s a flat course. The route through Miller Park is amazing and great inspiration as you approach the finish. The other fun aspect is that you can see Miller Park from about 90 percent of the course, so it’s always off in the distance, even at the furthest point.
Can you tell us a bit about the decision to partner with the MACC Fund?
There are a number of worthy charities, however we felt the MACC Fund was the right partner for our race. We felt we needed to partner with a very active charity, one that wanted to be involved in our race in a meaningful way. John Cary and his staff have really taken an ownership position with our race help contribute to the success of the overall event. Anyone who would like to donate to the MACC Fund through the Brewers Mini-Marathon & 10K can do so by going to http://www.brewersmini.com and clicking on the FUNDRAISE tab.

Cool giveaway! I love half marathons, so that would be my distance of choice, although I admit I’ve never done a 10K.
Definitely give a 10k a try sometime – they are a lot of fun!

I want to race the half marathon. I ran it last year and LOVED it. I love the half marathon distance because the distance is a challenge but I can still push myself on the pace.
We agree – just long enough to still have the power for a strong kick through the finish!
I’d be interested in the 10K…mostly because I’m currently pregnant and wouldn’t be able to finish a half-marathon right now! I like the 10K distance, though, because it’s not as time consuming to train for, yet still requires some good speed work and tempo sessions to really “race” it.
Congrats on your pregnancy! Perhaps this will be baby’s first 10k 🙂

I would race the half marathon. It’s my favorite race because it’s the perfect mix of distance and speed.
We agree – just the right distance to run fast but still feel like you’re covering a good amount of miles!

I want to do the half marathon – it’s a challenging distance (for me, as an “intermediate” runner) but attainable. It’s just far enough and the training is just long enough to make me really push myself but not throw in the towel before race day!

i’d love to run the 10k! I am running my first in chicago on the 21st, and would be so excited to run in MKE. there are a group of people from work running the 10k and the mini, but I just couldn’t spring for 2 10k registrations two weeks in a row!
10k is one of our favorite distances – a perfect blend of speed and endurance!
I’d like to do the half-marathon. I’ve only ever done 1 before and actually enjoyed the training – just long of a “season” before I got frustrated and wanted to throw in the towel. It’s an attainable distance but still challenging for a slowish runner like me.
We’ll be rooting for you when you decide to take on your next half marathon!

I would like to run the 10K. I like that distance because it’s the perfect challenge for me right now – longer than a 5K and shorter than a half marathon (but my goal is to run one next year!).

Thanks for commenting! 10k distance is great and we agree it’s an excellent compromise between a 5k and half!
I would like to run the half marathon. Perfect race distance for me, mainly because it is not a full. 🙂
Fulls are great, but sometimes a half is just right 🙂

I would like to run the half marathon. It’s my favorite distance and I didn’t think I would be in any shape to run that distance at the end of the month and now think I can do it.
A half is a great test of fitness – best of luck for the giveaway!

I would choose the 10k, I enjoy running, but due to past injuries some distances are beyond the range of my abilities. That includes a 13+ mi half marathon.
We like when races offer more than one distance option for this very reason. Good luck!
I’d like to do the 10k to assess where my speed work is getting me.
Thanks for commenting! Fall is a great time to reap the benefits of summer speedwork!
